Headers/Footers Issue

Arconna

Alright, I'm running Word 2000 and am having problems getting the Headers to
listen to me. I want the headers to only show up in the second page on (yes
I know there is a function for this), and not on the first page at all. I go
through the process and tell it just from Page 2 on, turn off the previous
option and it still puts the text on page one and turns back on the previous
option. So I have to go back to page 2, turn off previous, delete the text
from page one and do it all over again. It will stay until I make some
changes to the document and then enters the header info onto page one again.
How do I get it to either never put a header on page one, or get it to stop
putting it on there when I keep telling it not to with the options it gives?

Thanks,
SMD

It sounds as if you have inserted a section break. This is the hard way to
do it. Instead, check the box for "Different first page" on the Layout tab
of Page Setup so you have a separate First Page Header/Footer. If for some
reason you need to use a section break, you must unlink the header/footer in
Section 2 from the one in Section 1; see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm.

G'Day Arconna,

File>Page Setup
Layout (tab)
'Different First Page' CHECK the box

Leave the first page header/footer blank.

Try not to go through the process and tell it just from Page 2 on, (turn off the
previous option) because it will still put the text on page 1 and turn back on
the previous option.

So You'll then have to go back to page 2, turn off previous, delete the text
from page 1 and do it all over again. It will then stay until you make some
changes to the document and then it'll enter the header info onto page 1
again.

You see - things ain't the same as they used to was before they is as they
am now!
