How can I stop being asked before deleting text that I highlight?

This is a new behaviour that has suddenly appeared when i am using word.
previously i higlted, pressed delete and it worked right away. now i have to
confirm??

In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | General tab |
uncheck the two boxes for WordPerfect help and navigation | OK.
