How do I do a search for emails older than 6 months

I've tried searching in my archive folder. I've also tried turning archiving
off.
Ps can anyone tell me whether it is worth cross posting and can anyone name
one or two?)

Good point! What I actually mean to say is that, when I do any search, it
returns only the results for emails within the last six months. It should be
returning results for the last 5 years that I have been using Outlook. It
seems to me that it has something to do with archiving but when I conduct an
'instant search' in Outlook 2007, I always check the box to allow it to
search archives. Talking to other teachers in other schools, they say they
have the same problem. We would all be very grateful to anyone who can
figure it out!

You only have the single Archive folder open within Outlook?
What size is this archive?
Unless you copied earlier archives to the new outlook format data file (your
new Archive) your msgs will likely reside in an earlier archive, which you
would need to open within OL.
A DTS app will search them even if they are not connected to outlook

I only have the one archive folder but I think I'm on a wrong tack here.
The thing is, the messages I'm looking for are actually in the In Box ( I
found them by trolling through manually. However I can't afford the time to
do this every time I'm looking for an old message - I want to be able to use
the search function.

My question is why are they not coming up when I execute a search for them
in my inbox and more importantly how can I get around that problem.( I only
get recent results). They are not, by the way, hiding in subfolders and in
any case I have the search subfolders option checked.
Thankyou for your suggestion about using a Desktop Search, but in the long
term I need to crack this one
