Is there any way to freeze panes (like in excel) so that I can choose the
columns that are always visible when I scroll over to the right to view the
rest of the columns?

fatnoise,
Project is a hot item - it can't be frozen :)

What you can do however is to use a dual screen to show different
portions of a given project. Go to Window/New Window, select the project
that is already open and hit "ok". A second copy will be opened. Then go
to Window/Arrange All. You will now have a dual screen showing the same
Project file in the upper and lower panes. Horizontally scroll one or
the other to show different parts of the same view. Or for that matter,
you can also show two different views of the same file.

Hope this helps.
