How do I rejoin 3 split Express emails into one again?

Using Outlook Express, a friend sent me an email (a genealogy report) which
he had to split into 3 consecutive emails because of size restrictions. It is
a 4mg email.
To do so, he had to change the file extension. He chose the generic .abc.
I received them via attachments in Outlook, but am unable to regroup them
into one. As I open each one, they remain in digital language and make no
sense to me.
Can this situation be remedied?
