How do I restore Outlook data lost using detect and repair?

In using Detect and Repair I lost all my emails, in boxes and contacts. Can
I restore them and how should I do this?

This didn't work for me...the lastest backup was Aug 23rd and now I'm getting
a runtime error when I try to use parts of my Outlook. Any other suggestions?
Why doesn't a system restore work?

AndreasRoeder,

A detect and repair won't impact data, just the application itself. It
sounds to me like you may not have your PST file setup within the
application. I would do a search on your drive for *.pst (make sure to
search hidden files and folders - advanced search options). You can then
reattach any found PST files and see if they hold your data.

AndreasRoeder,

A PST file holds the data for Outlook when you're not using it in
conjunction with Exchange. I'm assuming you're not using Exchange since you
lost your info when work was done on the application itself.

You're still not explaining the "how to" part.

You're not responding to Andreas, but to someone showing "DesperateForHelp"
as their name. Andreas was the one who supplied the information the OP was
quoting. Better check your attribution when responding.

That's what I'm saying didn't work (the info on the website at that link)
because the backup file dated back to Aug 23rd, which is too far back. I also
searched for other pst files and found one which I tried to import into
Outlook. It should files being transferred for a long time (from inbox folder
and delete folder) but when I reopened Outlook, everything was still dated
back to Aug 23rd. Apparently the three of you who have responded to me know
of anther way to access the files that I'm sure on on my computer somewhere
since the detect and repair shouldn't affect the data files.

Thanks anyway...

Open Outlook, go to Tools-Options-Mail Setup-Data Files and browse to the
PST file. This will add an additional Personal Folder to Outlook that you
will be see using the Folder List view. You can then access all the info.

Kind Regards,
