Inability To Change Default Font Formatting

I am fairly well versed with Outlook, but this situation has me completely stumped. I am using Outlook 2003, w/ XP, and SP2.

This is the path I follow:

Tools>Options>Mail Format>Fonts>New Message

If I select any other font in the drop down box, there is a pause, then an error message that pops up that says, "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." A box appears with a check in it to restart Outlook. I click okay and Outlook restarts.

Endless searches via Sgt. Google turn up no troubles that match mine.

I have tried to overlay MS Office in an attempt to repair Outlook, as well as completely uninstalled the complete suite and reinstalled it, but to no avail.

Does anyone have a clue what my issues are, thus the path I need to follow to correct the problem?

Thanks all!

Warm regards,
Lisa Nolen :p

Do things work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run-> type; outlook.exe /safe

Thank you for responding. I opened Outlook in safe mode as you suggested and receive the exact same results. When I click to highlight a particular font, it won't even highlight it, but the error message that Outlook will restart pops up.

Thank you again for your suggestion.

What results do you get when you logon as a different user? Create a new
test user if you only have a single account on the computer.

I finally had a few moments to sit down and create a new user and configure outlook. Unfortunately, I am receiving the same results; the pop up message that I spoke of appears exactly the same and then Outlook restarts. I can't imagine what is causing this problem.

Thank you for your suggestion... do you have any others?
