InfoPath & Forms Services

Bret

we have just setup MOSS 2007 and will beinstalling InfoPath 2007. My
question is if we do not install InfoPath Forms Services, what limitations
does this impose on our company regarding forms being avaiable to all end
users and data gathering? Can I just get away with developing forms in
InfoPath and still have the functionality of forms being available to our end
users. (BTW, this question is motivated by my customer not wanting to spend
anymore money on software).
thanks for any clarification on this.

If you are installing forms server 2007 for your software package then
the client need not have IP 2007 installed . All the IP forms you
designed will be functional but with limited features like some drop
downs and rich text boxes will not be available .

On the other hand you are not installing forms server 2007 then the
client will be burdened with purchasing IP 2007 to load your forms !

Hope taht answers your query

MOSS 2007 Enterprise includes Forms Server, so you don't have to install it
separately. If you are only using MOSS 2007 Standard, then it is additional.
I wouldn't be talking about purchasing Forms Server but rather upgrading to
Enterprise from Standard, because you get a whole lot more for less. If you
already have Enterprise CALs, then integrated web forms are ready and
waiting. Then, you don't have to purchase InfoPath for everyone - isn't that
an extra epxnese, too? Even that shouldn't be purchased separately but
rather as part of the Office 2007 suite (Pro Plus, Enterprise, or Ultimate)
in order to save money and scale better.

Browser forms are much faster and allow people not to have to have the
client nor mess with using it locally on their machine while staying
completely within the browser. However, the browser forms have less
functionality than the full rich client versions. Even with this limitation,
I make 99% of my forms browser-enabled.
