Is it possible to change the individual gantt or task bar colors..

Hello

Is it possible to change the individual gantt or taskbar colors dynamically
based on schedule details? I am using Project 2000. I am famililar with
custum columns and adding formula into custom columns, however I want to
display different gantt or taskbar colors dynamically based on data in the
schedule.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Dora,
Yes, that can be done and there are various way to do it. One method is
to use a formula in a customized spare flag field and then set the
Format/Bar Styles to set the bar color based on the flag field.

Hi Dora,

Depending upon what pieces you are trying to keep track of, it may be
possible through a combination of custom fields (Flag for example) and
then through Format > Bar Styles. See FAQ #31 "Customizing Task Bars"
at:

to get you started.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi John

I cannot follow your message. Hwn you say "formula in a customized spare
flag field" are you referring to inserting a column or something else.
Plesae explain so that I can navigate there.

Thank you :)

Hi Julie

What you provided IS interesting, however I want to build a schedule that
dynamically (automatically) changes the gantt bar colors (like I can when I
creat a custome column with stop lights) based on data in the schedule
columns. So the gantt bar color would appear one color if information in the
schedule was XYZ, or another color is the information inthe schedule was MNO.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you,
Dora

Dara,
Well once again both Julie and I have provided the same suggested
solution at exactly the same time. What we both suggested is to set up a
custom field. Spare fields are customized, (Tools/Customize/Fields),
when a value list, formula or graphic indicator is added to them. So,
pick as many spare flag fields as you want (you can have up to 20).
Customize them with whatever formula you need to describe your "XYZ"
criteria. Then go to Format/Bar Styles and set up individual bar colors
with the "Show for...tasks" column set to match the flag fields you have
customized with a formula.

Dora,

Please see my reply to your most recent post. I am glad you found the
link "interesting". The link I provided does detail how to do what you
are asking. If you want more specific detail, you'll need to let us
know what "XYZ" and "MNO" mean.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
