Linking issue when part of a shell?

I have 10 different schedule files, and all of them have links to at least
one other schedule file, and some have links to more than one schedule file.
When I open all of them at once to get the latest date info between the
input/output milestones, everything updates fine. I even verified this by
hitting F9.

If I use what I call a "shell", a standalone project file that has each
schedule linked into it (so as to view all of them in one project file), MS
Project kind of hangs up/keeps calculating as if there is circular logic, but
no error message appears. I have tried isolating the issue by only opening
up no more than 2 schedule files in the shell (I usually collapse all
schedules files, but when expanding more than 1 file, that's when the
calculation starts) to see where I get hang ups, but haven't had much luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Are ou sure all insereted files are on the right outline level, iow, isn't
one accidentally inserted as part of another one?

Yes, all schedules are at the same outline level. When they were inserted,
each schedule was collapsed so as not to insert one under the other. There
are no summary links between files, or within files.
