Out of curiosity, have you tried authenticating to your ISP's SMTP server?

Do you have a verizon cell phone. Verizon celll phones come with an SMTP
address that works great for me on the road.

Hello - I need to travel a lot and have problem with sending email

change ISP's. I always get the "550" error - not a gateway.

Can anyone rercommend a good local SMTP server that I can install on
my
laptop to solve this problem?

Thanks

When posting the same message to multiple newsgroups, do NOT multi-post.
Cross-post instead. See replies to your other disconnected thread in
the microsoft.public.outlook group.

You can use the SMTP services that come with IIS to be your own mail server,
but keep in mind that with SPAM being such a nuisance these days that it is
very possible that whatever dial-up/broadband connection you acquire might
end up being blocked for administrative reasons. Have you thought about
paying for a mailbox thru yahoo or an Exchange application provider so you
can send from anywhere?

I do ask for the authentication option. Sometimes it works and sometimes
not.

Seems like one of the shareware SMTP servers might do the trick for me. I am
curious if anyone here has tried them.

Thanks.
