Mark as unread not available (grayed out) on edit menu within mess

E

Earle Kelley

Hi all,

I am new to the world of Outlook... I used to support Lotus Notes, but have
now taken a position where we use Outlook 2003, so this question may seem
academic/elementary/silly to some of you, but I could use a little guidence.

I have a user who cannot mark a message as unread while the message is open.
The option in the edit menu is grayed out, and the CTRL-U does not work (so
she claims). When she exits the message, it vanishes from her inbox. I
assume she has her mailbox set to only view unread messages, or she has a
rule set to move read messages to a different folder. Anyway, I wanted to
get a direction to take before I go to her workstation. She is a very busy
person, and also very influential in the company. I don't want to waste her
time trying to troubleshoot at her desk.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

open messages are marked as read as soon as they are opened and she is most
likely using a 'hide read messages view' so it appears to disappear when the
message is closed.

if she's 'opening' in the reading pane, the default is to mark messages read
after xx seconds.
