Message stuck in outbox

I have two computers(desktop and laptop) that utilize Outlook with the same
email address. I attempted to send an email message to myself from my
desktop to my laptop. I do this on a regular basis, but this time the
message
hung up in the desktop outbox, although I received it on the laptop. If I
now attempt to send or receive messages on the desktop, I get an error -
"Unknown Error 0x8004060C" - but the message hung in the outbox will show up
again on the laptop.

I contacted my internet provider(ATT) and spent 2 hours trouble shooting,
but in the end they tell me it is a problem with Outlook on my desktop.

Any ideas?

Tried it that way - still does not work. When I attempt to delete the
message, I get "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If
the problem persists, restart Outlook."

I've had a similar problem on another machine just recently. I can't delete
==any== emails, and I get the same errror message if I try. Try using
Shift-Delete. Seems to work for me, but remember that the email will be
permanently deleted and not go into the Deleted Items folder.

That worked - I deleted the message in the outbox.

But send/receive still does not work - still get the same error.

TRS,
Have you figured out how to solve your problem? I am getting the exact same error and in what seems like the same situation. I was also able to delete my messages by using shift+delete but I am still not able to download any new emails either.

My only option was to remove/reinstall outlook - never figured out what was
wrong, but it is working now.
