I have copied the pst files from my XP to an external drive and copied to the
Vista machine but I cant locate them when try to browes. Where exactly
should I have copied then to on the Vista machine? I have the how to details
on this but the loctaion as mentioned on the how to sheet for vista is not
there on my laptop. I'm ok to \users\username\ then \appData etc is not shown
on my laptop. I'm not Techy should I have exported and imported? Sorry if I'm
being thick here!! I need very simple steps please.

You can place the pst-file wherever you want as long as you don't overwrite
any existing ones in the process. I recommend Documents\Outlook (create that
folder). Then in Outlook connect to it by File-> Open Outlook Data File...

Thanks Roady. Should this have been a backup restore, or a straight copy?
There seem to be a few pst files. which ones do I need? All of them? Which
one has my contacts. I'm restoring or copying to Vista Business from Win XP
Proff. I tried the File > open > data file> but no files were shown.

I assume you want to transfer your most recent items as well so a straight
copy would be best.
I cannot look into your pst-files so I don't know which one you need. By
default only one is created and another one when you turn on AutoArchive.
I'd say, copy them all and connect to it and then decide what to keep and
what not.

Hello Roady,

I have done as you suggested and the files from the XP are in
Documents\Outlook on the Vista machine. I have gone to File>Open> Datafile
and I'm offered Archive or Outlook I have tried both. I can't see my contact
or any sent e-mails.
All the e-mails I have already opended on the XP have appreded on the Vista
OL2007 machine.

I need to find my sent files from XP and all my contact and I'd havelike the
rules I'd set up as well if this is possible. Any ideas please

And from File-> Open-> Outlook Data File... You browsed to your
Documents\Outlook folder?

There is no further trick involved as all data should be in one of your
pst-files that you have created. I cannot look from here in which that
actually is.

If you are looking in the Folder List for your contacts, you won't see them.
They will be in the Contacts view.....

Thanks Gordon ! I have looked at Contacts and view. If I click on the
Contacts in persoanl folder under "All contact items" I can see them. But
when I want to use an address when sending a mail the addresses are not there
to pick on or auto suggest the (say) peter I wish to send too. I still cant
find all me sent e-mails from the XP outlook.

Thanks if you have any more thoughts...

Sounds like you haven't configured the Outlook Address Book service.

Brian,
Thank you very much, I'll have look. I'm not a Techy, in fact far from it,
but I do have more questions, as I'm still struggling to find all my old sent
mail that I thought I'd copy across etc,... Should I post them all in one
post or sperate. They are to do with moving my OL 2002 in pst files from XP
to OL2007 on Vista. I'm still trying to work on both XP 2002 and Vista 2007...

Brian, (or others)

As I seem to be in a mess on copying files from XP with OL2002 to OL2007
Vista should I start again by deleting all the files on the Vista machine and
then only copying the ones you recommend? The files I have on the XP that I
copied to Vista are:
• Archive backup.pst 1,084,224 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Archive.pst 1,084,224 KB Office Date File 01/02/08
• Extened.dat 2KB DAT File 11/01/08
Inbox at 8jan07.pst 48 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Mailbox.PAB 32 KB Office Data File 31/01/07
• Outlook backup 1,176,240 KB Office Data File 14/11/07
• Outlook.pst 1,167,824 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Persoanl Folders(1) 32 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Sent at 8jan.pst 48 KB Office Data File 01/02/08

The above files I copied to: Vista \Documents\Outlook

The main problem is viewing and using the contacts from my XP contacts book,
and all the e-mail I have sent from the XP machine, plus received e-mails.
However, new e-mail’s are coming into the Vista in box, and I can send fine
if I wish.

How do I set the default font for e-mails to 14 its currently 11.

Sorry this is a bit long.
