MSysCompactError problem

I have a master backend on the network that other laptops synch with. I ahve
a couple of questions/problems:
1. Am I allowed to compact/repair the master?
2. When I do #1 it deletes the file "MSysCompactError".
3. When this file is deleted I get an error of "Not being able to find this
file" when I try to synch the replicas.
4. 'If' I can't compact/repair then will my backend grow to an enormous siize?

Any information about this topic would be great?

I'm sure you can compact a replicated backend. However I've never
done any serious work with replication.

I'd suggest asking in the replication newsgroup. Hopefully you can
see that on the list of newsgroups in your browser window. Darn looks
like that newsgroup isn't available there.
