Mysterious Indent in Publisher 2003

I'm using Publisher 2003 in a book format with a two page spread.
I am doing numbered paragraphs without any Publisher-created
indenting or bullets. One of the page numbering is tabbed
towards the center, like about 8 spaces, and I can't get it flush
left like the others. I'm looking at the Special Characters under
view
and all I see is the usual P for Paragraph marks. Any clues on how
to get it flush left? Highlighting it and pressing the L C R
for L doesn't work.

It was a simple case of putting the Ruler on and looking
at the tabs.

It's been a while since I've had to use Publisher on an extended
project.
