Notify when predecessor task is complete

I am not sure if this is a stupid question, but here goes:

I have setup a simple project in Proj. 2003 and it seems to be working
okay. One thing I am having trouble with is understanding predecessors.
I would like project to email the resource(s) of tasks once the
predecessors have completed.

I have setup a task, e.g., Task A, assigned it to resource Mr. A. I
have also setup a task, Task B, and assigned it to Mr. B. and made it
have a predecessor of Task A. I would like Mr B. to be notified as
soon as the predecessor Task A has been completed. Is this possible?

Hi Jeffrey,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

There's nothing built in, but surely the resources work to a plan and those
working on the sucessor will begin according to plan. Otherwise, if a
predecessor is running late, this data needs to be inserted into the project
and re-planned. Only you know that and it's part of the pm's job to
communicate!

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

I'm not very familiar with Project VBA, but you might be able to set up
a macro to do this.

One point - if A must be completed before B can start, A is the predecessor
of B or you could equally say that B is the successor of A. Your post
suggests you have linked them the other way around.
