Odd behaviour in Publisher 2007

When this programme opens, and the mouse is put over the icons for the
various designs, or, over existing publications, there is a horrible
grinding noise from (I believe) the floppy drive.

Any ideas or suggestions?

WindowsXP?
Look at recently opened documents in Windows (Right-click Start, click
Properties, Customize, Advanced tab, clear list.
You probably accessed your floppy recently...

Thanks for the reply - running Vista Home Premium.

Is Publisher the only application in which this odd behavior manifests itself?
It could be a Vista issue.
Are you getting an error message at all? What happens if you insert a floppy?

Yes - only in Publisher 2007. I still have Office 2003 installed on my
XP partition, and Publisher 2003 in that is as quiet as a mouse.

With Office 2007, I have, as you suggested, inserted a floppy, and after
an initial 'seek', Publisher appears to be satisfied and the constant
grinding noise ceases. Remove the floppy, and we are back to square one.

Is it Vista?

Your issue is definitely a Vista problem. You probably should ask this on a
Vista newsgroup.
Have you saved to or accessed the floppy when you used Office?

Open the control panel, folder options, view tab, clear *Restore previous folder
windows at logon* if it is checked.

Mary - I can't remember when I last used a floppy, so the answer is
'no'. The Control Panel folder options section was unchecked.
As you suggest, I will raise this matter in a Vista forum.

Thanks for you help.
