one note security problem

Hi,

I need help with a certain aspect of onenote. I use my onenote notebooks on
different computers, and so security is very important to me.

I've noticed that even after locking away my notebooks in encrypted drives,
whenever I open up Onenote, the last page i was editing always opens up.

Even though the notebook itself is in an encrypted folder, i can edit the
notebook, and then when i open the encrypted folder and the notebook inside
it, all my edits have been transferred there.

It means that anyone who just opens up onenote sees ALL the notebooks i've
been working on and can even make changes to them!

Is there a way to stop one note from keeping all my notebooks in its memory
all the time? Any way to force it to save all content to the notebook and
then not re-open it whenever the next person opens up the onenote program?

The password protect function only seems to be for individual sections,
which is too much of a hassle as i have too many sections!

Can anyone please suggest a solution to this?

thanks alot!

You have protected the notebooks but the onenote interface primarily works
with a cache, and secondarily makes any changes to the files in the "OneNote
Notebook" directory. If the notebooks are accessible (and they don't have to
be) OneNote will keep them updated in real time. One other thing you want to
watch for are backup notebooks.

If you are working on multiple computers I would put your notebooks on a
portable, protected USB drive. If you go to a different computer, you can
open the notebooks directly off of the USB drive. Here is the step you
need: before you exit OneNote at the end of your session, close your
notebooks from the file menu. The next person will not have access to the
notebooks you just closed after you remove the USB drive, and the cache will
delete the notebooks (maybe not instantly but they are not accessible). The
last thing to do before you walk away from is to delete any backups that
OneNote made on the host computer. Unfortunately, backups are global
settings for the software, you can't set it for each notebook. So you'll
have to go into "tools" "options" "save" to find out where they are on the
host computer. Then go to windows explorer and delete any of the backups of
your stuff. On your primary computer, you can have it backup to the USB
drive but you risk losing all your work if you lose the USB drive. Be sure
to keep another backup of your current work somewhere.

Good luck.
