outlook 2002 won't close on shut down

I get a dialog box that says Outlook is closing or something when I try to
shut down and then it changes to Outlook can't close and all I can do is
click the End Program Now button. But this requires manual intervention
just to shut down the pc. Any help would be appreciated.
