Outlook 2007: advanced properties blocked in outlook.pst file

R

Renaud_D

Hello,

When I try to access the advanced properties of my default personal folders
file from within Outlook, I have the message "The file c:/...full
path.../outlook.pst cannot be opened"

Similarly, from the Data File Management window, trying to access the
settings for the same outlook.pst file brings up the error: "An unknown error
occurred, error code 0x80040116".

All the folders and messages from the file work fine in Outlook. I ran
scanpst.exe with no reported error. The file is about 390MB. I'm running
Vista Ultimate.

Thank you to advise...

Kind regards,

Renaud, Brussels

Definitely first step is a new profile!!!

Was this an upgrade from a previous version of Office or even Windows?

C:/../ was a typo, right? You did mean to write C:\...\?

Do you get this error for all attached pst-files or just this one?

Hello Robert,

Thanks for the quick reaction.

Yes, it was an upgrade from Outlook 2007 on XP Pro with SP2, working fine,
to the same Outlook 2007 config on Vista Ultimate.

I tried to create another profile. When I want to bind my existing pst file
to the newly created profile (not the blank one automatically generated with
the profile), it refuses again to open the existing outlook.pst file with the
same error message...

It sounds like something else is locking the pst-file then. Can you
succesfully copy it to another location and then connect it to Outlook?

That was the correct assessment...

The file was somehow locked by the operating system, I guess. Copying it
and renaming then binding it back solved the issue. Advanced Properties can
be accessed again.

Thanks!

Renaud, Brussls.
