You first - Outlook version? Mail account set up? New Profile already tried? Did it ever work? If yes, what did you do to make it stop working?

Hi Milly, thanks for your quick response. My Outlook version is Office 2000.
mail account set up is regular pop3 account. it's been working for over a
year so far. Did not try the new profile yet because I'm afraid it's going to
delete my old folder. I did not try to stop the existing folder working, it
happened last night automatically. I guess one of the reason could be I had
too many big attachment emails. It happened to my old Outlook Express account
twice on two different computers, because there were too many big emails and
I refuse to auto archive emails. It finally collapsed, thus I had to use
Outlook instead. Is there any way I can recover and I would delete some of
the old emails so that it would not overload Outlook. thanks!

How big is your PST? How many messages are in the Inbox? Outlook has a
limitation of 2GB overall and no more than 65000 items per folder, as low as
16000 with older versions.

Hi Diane, how are you? I'm not sure how big my PST was. I guess it must be
more than 2GB, because I use it for work, and got huge attachment say 10Mb
each on regular basis. and I had over 12000 emails in total, including
"in-box" and "sent" boxes. I left around half year's emails in Outlook.
probably that's the reason. tks/KP

it's probably not working because the pst is too big. you'll need to crop
it down to open it
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.asp

I would rename the pst and let outlook create a new one. This will allow it
to open - then crop the old pst and recover it. move only the stuff you need
day to day to the new pst (calendar and contacts, recent mail) and use the
old recovered one as an archive.

If Outlook 2003 or 2007 is in your future, you won't have this problem again
as they support unlimited file sizes.
