outlook error message when sending or receiveing

I have used OL for several years and it has usually worked without too
much trouble. This morning i started to have problems with send/
recieve. I have only 1 pop account configured. when i click the "test
account " button. everything check fine. but, when i try to actually
send and email from my outbox I get the following error:

Task 'mail.mymail.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13) : 'Unable
to connect to the network. Check your network connection or modem.'

(I have substituted mymail.com for the actual server name.) Any
thoughts on what could cause this. Thanks

Forgot to mention using Xp Pro sp 4 and outlook 2003
