Outlook not stamping date in inbox

Wneh I receive mail, the inbox will not have a date asssociated with the
email. If the mail is routed to another file via rules, there is a date on
the email.

Where are you looking? Have you added the "Received" column to that folder?
What version of Outlook are we talking about here?
What mail account type are you using?
