Outlook stores msgs in C:\

Otlook 2000 (and 2003 as well) automatically stores in C:\ a copy of every
message received, in source format. This happens when the messages are
downloaded (upon syncronisation).
This clutters C:\ enormously.
Where is this controlled from - can it be disabled?

That's an anomoly, normally messages aren't saved in the file system like
that. Did you do anything odd to your setup or install anything that
interacts with Outlook?

Hi,
I have the same problem and for the life of me cannot clean it up. You can
watch as messages come in and it rights to c:\ .... it will write them in a
format like sjs.1, sjs.2 etc. Then next time it might be skg.1, skg.2.
You can remove them once outlook is closed, This is not very secure because
a copy of all your message are now stored on the local c:\ drive.

I have removed my install and reinstalled again,, same issue. I believe
the other person is using Outlook 2000, I'm on 2003. So, seem like it is not
related to a version.

If any one has seen this and know a fix let us know.. Drving me crazy, and
this is the only place I found someone with the same issue.

To answer Vince's question - no, I have not done anything odd to my setup nor
am I aware that any software installed interacts with Outlook.
My problem is the same as described by Pat.
I have Outlook installed on different PCs and I am getting this anomaly only
on one.
Any clue as to what settings/software I should check out would be appreciated.

Figured it out. Start msconfig from the start/run command. Go to the
startup tab and look for ccapp. Uncheck this.
Restart the system and check outlook email. You will notice that you get no
more source files wrtten to the c:\ drive.

ccapp is from Norton Symantec, and is part of the anti virus and internet
security software. Not it is not Outlook cause the issue but Norton.

To correct the problem, enable ccapp in the startup again. Uninstall
Norton Antivirus or Internet Security. Reboot, check and confirm mail, then
reinstall Norton again. Reboot and check again. Problem should be
corrected.

Not sure what happened or why but this is how I corrected the issue. My
guess something we south on a Norton configuration or file, uninstall and
reinstall corrects that.

Let me know if that works.
