Outlook today should show tasks based on Start Date, not due date

outlook today should show today's tasks based on start date, not due date to
indicate which task you should be working on today not just which tasks are
due today.

You can do that already. Go into Customize Outlook Today.
Tasks has a sort feature.

No, jeridbohmann.. that is only a sort for the tasks that are showing... the
issue Rose is referring to is that you can't get Outlook Today to put tasks
with a start date of today on the list to begin with...

Yes, Tiffany...read the post:
1) outlook today should show today's tasks based on start date not due date
to indicate which task you should be working on today...not just which tasks
are due today.
If I go to customize I can sort by start date and not due date. So she wants
start date first, not due date...you can do this already.

No... Rose (and many others) would like to SHOW the tasks with a start date
of today in Outlook Today.... the sort you are referring to sorts the tasks
by start date but still does not include the tasks with a start date of today
in that sorted list.

So, yes, they are sorting by start date but the list does not SHOW the tasks
that start today. So, you're only sorting the tasks that are showing which
are only tasks with a start date in the past... not a start date of today.

Please test it by doing the following if you want to understand what we're
saying:

Create 3 tasks - one each with a start date of yesterday, today and
tomorrow... now... go to Outlook Today with your sort done by start date and
notice that the task with a start date of TODAY is not in your view. Only the
one with a start date of yesterday is shown.

Thank you for revisiting this post.

I have a start date of 27th, 28th, and 30th. (Todays the 28th)
I did sort by start date and it shows me the one for the start of 27th, then
the 28th, and the 30th. So they are sorted by start date.
So if there is a task that should have been started yesterday, isn't it more
important to do that task first?
If she only wants to see her tasks for today check the show today tasks.
So you keep saying it doesn't SHOW todays task. Funny thing is, mine SHOWS
me today's task as well as yesterdays and tomorrows all in order.
So I don't know what the problem is? Show's me all 3 tasks, all in the right
order.

I want to add to this that I too have the same issue. However let me state
it this way:

I have a task that is Due in a couple of days, but I want to start it today.
However, I also have 30 other tasks with differing start dates and due
dates. In the "customize outlook today" I have the tasks sorted by "start
date" however, I ONLY want the tasks that I should start today (or earlier)
visible. This does not happen in Outlook 2002. I have two options. 1. I
select the show "all tasks" in which case I have all 30 of my tasks viewable,
but I do not want this since I only want to concentrate on the tasks I should
start/continue working on visible. or 2. I select the show "today's tasks"
which will ONLY show me the tasks DUE today, not the ones I need to start.

So jeridbohmann is right that you can sort them...but if you have A LOT of
tasks you do not want all of them visible.

If anyone knows how to make it so that you can see the start date and
earlier tasks without seeing ALL the tasks....post it here

I think this is what Tiffany was saying...

Just put a check to see today's tasks. It will show you all tasks that have a
start date of today and earlier.

I'm not sure if I have the same issue... In Outlook Today I like to stort by
Start Date, all tasks. I apply a start date and an end date to all tasks so
that I"ll know if I'm passed due on something.

When I go into Customize and select to list all tasks sorted by start date,
I get all tasks sorted by end date. I have tried every conceivable
combination of sorting, even sorting by importance then start date, but due
date keeps over-riding. I'm not sure if it's a bug or what. It was sorting
correctly (but only in Winter view, not the otheres) fine until yesterday
when it reverted again.

Anyone else have this issue? Thanks

Actually, that is not correct. If you put a check to see today's tasks, it
will show you all tasks that have a due date (as opposed to start date) of
today and earlier.

Is there any way to filter out only tasks that have a start date of today
and earlier?
