Resently we have discoverred an interresting fenomenon:
- 4 users using XP SP2 and MS office XP and 2003 with all SPs and hotfixes
started having problems sending messages
- simply, they would send messages, but those messages would never be
deliverred to the indented recepients
- working closelly with the ISP (whose SMTP server is used), we have
discoverred that those users' Outlooks generate message ID longer then 128
characteers, and consecutivelly the SMTP server rejects those messages
without any explanation, error messages or complaints.they dissapear in a
black holle. SMTP server can not be reconfigurred to allow message id longer
then 128 characters
- we have rebuilt some machines and reinstalled XP and office but after 2-3
messages the problem would reappear.
- repairing Outlook (Help -> repair) would fix the problem for 2-3 messages
and afterards everything would go sour.
- the problem is persistent on 3 clones (high end Intel machines) and 1 HP
dekstop...
- all software is properly licensed and no illegal sw is used on any system

Searching the web and Microsoft KB was fruitless.

SMTP server is:
System H/W manufacturer: HP
Operating system: HP-UX 11.00
smtp program: Intermail vM.5.01.02.00
