Paragraph and Table Formatting OneNote 2007

rgletter

I've read from one MS MVP that OneNote is not intended for presentation
purposes.

As a long time software consultant, its never advantageous to assume how a
user will use a product. Many times users will use a product in ways
developers never thought or intended.

I use OneNote everyday - mostly for researching my book projects.
Formatting becomes important for my own readability. Not having line spaces
between paragraphs when coping from the web makes the text difficult to read
especially if there is lots of it. I don't want to waste time with Word or
other programs when I keep all my notes and activity in OneNote.

The paragraph formatting is the weakest link in both OneNote 2003 and 2007.
Shame on you Microsoft for not keeping your customers satisfied with such a
simple request. AS someone who is working to change our school systems, I
would recommend this product to schools and students if it not for this
feature missing from the product.

Obviously, I'm not the only one that feels this way in regards to OneNote.
I see plenty of references of need on the Microsoft site and others on the
web.

Steve Ballmer, can you hear me?

I partly agree with you in that a bit more of formatting options would
be needed.

But: Pls keep in mind what OneNote is: neither a fully blown
wordprocessor nor a replacement for PowerPoint.
And if users use an instrument for purposes it was designed for, IMHO
OneNote does offer more than I would of thought of.
But I doubt that this "eggs-laying-wool-milk-pig" can be given even many
more features of Word.

As far as line spacing is concerned (on my wish-list too; Verdana f.e.
looks really ugly in ON) I'm using a workaround for things imported from
the web:
I just mark the container and change the font to Calibri.
The latter is a font with a rather low height of the characters and by
this makes text ways better readable.

Apart from that:
Neither Bill the Great, nor Steve Balmer will hear you shouting in this
doorway <g,d&r>.
But if you want to make the development team, you may post your wishes
this as suggestions for the next version in "Connect", the place for
submitting suggestions and bug reports to the developers team:
http://connect.microsoft.com/onenote/

When done, pls drop a note with the URL in here so that we can jump in
and vote for your suggestion.

TIA

OneNote is a fantastic tool! But, this one minor looking feature is not
pretty - and difficult for heavy users. It doesn't take much to put in the
code to have line spacing between paragraphs when copying text from the web
(html) to OneNote.

I would be surprised to find a user that thinks congruent spacing paragraphs
is a benefit to them.

I'm not looking for the OneNote product to be like Word or any other Office
product. But, I do expect it to be excellent in its usefullness and ease of
use.

I'm no developer of MS <gbg> and I'm too far from my programming days to
estimate if it would be too difficult or not.
ON has it's own proprietary file format with very many very specific
details. So it might be doable or not.

LOL
The "Web-capture" of ON is a fantastic feature.
But it suffers. For sure.
Handling the formatting of a website with sophisticated design is quite
something {siiiiigh}.

AFAICS this is not asking for too much.

But - as said before - there ain't no use at all in whining and/or
complaining in this very newsgroup!!
Just like going down into the cellar and shouting out loud. Great sound!
But *NOBODY* will hear you.

Therefore pleeeease be so kind as to do what I suggested in my last
posting:
Go to "Connect" [1] and post your complaints and suggestions there.
This would at least offer the chance to be heard by the developers.

Just venting in here is good for nothing!

I agree with you completely. It is driving me crazy trying to figure out how
to line space. I do alot of typing for bible study and OneNote helps alot
because of the way it is made that I can see what I typed before so that way
I am not typing it twice, or look at Bible Verses. With Word I have to go
back and look at a whole another document but with OneNote I don't have to do
that it is so much easier.
