percent completion not showing in the summary task

The percent completion of the subtask is not rolling up to the summary task.
This was a plan that was created by another, but I think originally in
Project 2003 if not in the previous version. For example, it has 2 subtasks
and one is 100% complete, but it is still showing 0% complete.

Is there a quick fix other than recreating the task, which we have found
sometimes works.

Pcuber1,
There are two possible reasons that come to mind. First, is calculation
set for automatic (Tools/Options/Calculation tab)? Second, is the
subtask that is 100% complete a milestone?

Yes the subtask is a milestone, the calculation was automatic and the all
open projects is selected for calculation as well.

I saw on the site and went into the actual column and reclicked on the
actual start & finish dates. Now those item roll ups are showing 99%.

I tried to manipulate the outline structure, but project will not let me
move the indentations of those tasks. When it does, it is a few lines below
and I can't undo what looks bad and doesn't help me. I have to not save the
file and open another version.

There's always the workaround of manual cakculations and putting in a text
column and hiding the column with the wrong status.

Hi Pcuber1,

Pardon me for jumping in... Your third paragraph about difficulties
changing the indentation prompts me to ask if your installation of
Project 2003 has all of the current service packs. Project 2003 is up
to Service Pack 2. See the Knowledge Base article below for information
on downloading SP-2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Pcuber1,
At the summary line level percent complete is calculated by Project
using a formula that includes Actual Duration of subtasks. Since a
milestone by definition has zero duration, the fact that a subtask
milestone is 100% complete will not show up on the summary line percent
complete until all subtask milestones are complete. This of course is
modified if there is a mixture of milestones and non-milestone tasks
under the summary line.

Remember that a summary line is simply a collection of summarized data
that Project creates for the subtasks. Some data, percent complete for
example, is calculated based on defined formulas. The particular
calculation used may or may not be what the user is expecting. The same
holds true of summary line progress lines. There have been many
discussions on this subject in this newsgroup. The bottom line is this,
summary line data (or graphics) is always open to interpretation and
should not be relied on to portray hard and fast information. It is like
anything that is summarized - it is not the whole story.

I'm not sure if this helps, but at least it explains what you are seeing.
