picture merge within a network

I am trying to do a catalog merge with publisher. I have probably over 1,000
+ pictures located out on a network drive so I do not wan to copy them
somewhere else. the file names are the item numbers for example 00016.jpeg
is the file name. I have used the more items product pictures and even
changed the specific folder to include the network drive and path. I have
the path typed in correctly in the excel file that I am using for my product
list in its own column and it still won't insert the picture. What I am I
doing wrong. Thank you for your help.

It is almost certain the file name will be 00016.JPG and not 0016.jpEg so
you need to check that.

In my experience if you create a folder; insert the data base and all the images
into the folder you do not have to type the path into the image field, only the
image name, such as doggie.jpg.

It could be putting the pictures on your local drive will be a solution.

What version Publisher are you using? If 2003 are you expanding the picture
field to *Insert as Picture?*

You are correct that was a typo the file name will be "00016.jpeg. Also to
respond to Mary's post as I said there are well over 1,000 pictures. I would
rather not have to copy them to the local drive, but if that is the only way
I will. I did try and copy a few of the pictures to the local drive (after
reading a previous post stating to try that) and do a small merge on them and
it still did not work. I am using publisher 2007. If I have to change the
name of the pictures to have a alpha character is there a quick and easy way
to do that? I would copy them to another folder and then change the name of
the copies so that the database that the pictures are in would still work.

Correction. I double checked the actual file name is "00016.jpg" I am
exporting the information from an "inventory database program" that to print
a catalog would require buying another component of the program and I was
hoping to save my company money (and look like a star ;) ) and do the catalog
in publisher instead. All the picture files are stored in a seperate folder
that the databases uses to store them. I have exported the details about
each item into the excel sheet to use as my product list so all I have to
type is the path/file name of the pictures. Hopefully this will work. Or
would it be better to do in word or some other office program?
