Pointing to contact in To: line shows an icon to the left of name?

When I hover my mouse pointer on the name listed in the Mail Message To: line
a person icon appears to the left. This has a dropdown button that lists
contact information. What is this? Where did it come from because it wasn't
there before? and how do I turn it on and off?
