Is there a way to change the font used when posting to newsgroups when in
plain text?

Does html make it OK with newsgroups?

Plain text does not allow any font variations (other than on your own
screen).

No. Generally, only plain text is suitable for newsgroups, as most
newsreading programs cannot view HTML.

As an aside, I would strongly suggest not using a real email address in your
newsgroup posts. If you insist on using it, you will soon be deluged with
spam.
