Predecessor and Task finish dates don't shift dependant start dates?

Hi.

MPP 2007.

Sorry this must be very basic, how can I set my project so that
dependant task are performed as soon a possible shifting start dates
to ASAP.

Also, I am able to edit my projects with IE 7.0, but sometimes when
prompted if okay to proceed, the IE version does not accept the Okay
button.

Thanks.

Hi wildman,

Sounds as though the dates have been typed in thus causing constraints.
Select all the tasks and then Project/Task Information and set the
Constraint Type to ASAP.

However, if you're using the server version, try posting on the server
newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs, companion
products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web
address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Thanks.

I checked and all are set to ASAP.

What's odd, when I change a date in the predecessor path, it
highlights some of the dates (apparently that violate) in blue. but it
does not automatically adjust them as I would like.

Not sure if related, but I check the project information and it's set
to Schedule from Project Start Date

also, when I check the task driver on one of these tasks I see this:

The following factors are affecting the start date of:

Task: 9 - Test Version 2
Start: Wed 3/12/08

No task selected. Please select a task on the right.

The calculation mode for this project has been set to Manual. The
information below may not be accurate unless you re-calculate the
project by pressing F9.

We are unable to determine what is driving this task.

In order to determine what is driving the start date, the inserted
project must be expanded by clicking the expand/collapse button.

Open the project the task belongs to in order to see what is driving
it.

To determine what is driving this task the project needs to be re-
calculated. Press F9 to calculate the project.

This feature is not available for Schedule from Finish projects. More
Information
To change how your project is scheduled go to the Project Information
dialog located on the Project menu.
We are unable to determine whether the subtasks or summary task is
driving this task.
Task Drivers cannot be displayed when a resource view is selected.
Please switch to a task view to use this feature. If you are in a
split view, the task drivers feature will only work when a task view
is selected.
Project Start:

Actual Start: Wed 3/12/08
Assignments:

This task is being driven by assignments. More Information
To see all of the assignments affecting this task, go to the task
usage view and look for resources that have work on the task start
date.

.... but the project is set to schedule from project start date.

I'm not sure what your problem is, then. Can you give some example? Where
does IE7 come in? You shouldn't be entering dates except for Actual Start or
Actual Finish.

ie is a seperate issue. This is happening on the full client sw.

calculation mode = automatic.
calculate: all open projects.

This happens:

taks 9 - 33% Test Version 2 3 days Wed 3/12/08 Fri 3/14/08 8 8
task 10 - 75% Deployment - Live Testing 4 days Thu 3/13/08 Tue
3/18/08 9

where task 10 remains earlier than than task 9s end date.

when I check constraint type on taks 10 its asap.

Thanks.

Hi,

The percentages make a bell ring.
Once you neter Actual dat especially actual start (which i automatically set
when entering a %complete not zero) dependencies will not move the task.
Actual data should be a reflexion of past history and Project won't change
that

I grabbed this project as a template. When I first starting tweaking
start dates, all dates were rolling. At some point they stopped. I
only want the % as informational. Now what?

Thanks.

It's not what you want the% to be, it's what you told Project it means.
In which column is it?
If you just want it for information enter it in a custom text column such as
Text1.
Is it in %complete or %work complete?

The title reads "% Complete", but when I click custom fields for its
field "Text1". If I chose to rename, it wants to rename from Text1.
Calculations for it are none and changin it does nothing.

BTW, if at any point I selected to hide a column, how can I bring it
back.

Thank you.

Insert, Column to bring a column back.

If you do not have %complete or any actuial dates the only idea I can offer
is send me the file, I'll have a look.
