Printing gray text on HP printer

Hi,

I'm trying to print invitations using various shades of gray text to a HP
LaserJet IIIp printer. I have the different shades in the Word document, but
when it prints the print is all the same shade. Does anyone know, will the
IIIp not print different shades or is there something else I'm missing?
