Problem w/ Equation Editor (Word Professional 2003)

I am running the German version of Word Professional 2003 on my computer.
When trying to run the Equation Editor (Formel Editor in German), the
installation window keeps popping up repeatedly and successively, which is a
niusance because it either keeps the add-in from working or it interrupts the
work constantly.
How I can prevent this from happening?

Is there any free upgrade for the Equation Editor available, in case that I
have to reinstall it?

I can't answer your first question, because I'm not sure what's
causing this. With regard to your second question though, the
only free upgrade I know of is the MathType evaluation. It will
function as MathType for 30 days. Beyond that, many of the
features are disabled, and it has all of Equation Editor's
functionality, but it also retains the ability to edit MathType
equations.
