Given the pattern of junk mailer behavior these days, it would be great if
Outlook had a junk mail rule that when enabled would check for high order
duplicate messages and move them to the junk mail folder. The majority of
junk mail that I receive that gets past both Outlook's and Norton's junk mail
filters involves 4-20 messages with identical subject lines and bodies (at
least the message bodies visually appear identical). It's a pattern that
could be codified into the junk mail filter.
Specifics:
- Initially screen by duplicate subject lines
- If duplicate subject lines are found, then check message body to see if it
is duplicated as well; that differentiates between bulk junk mail and
legitimate conversation threads in which the subject line is often identical.
An algorithm might be employed for the message body comparison so that a
true full text comparison is not necessary.
- Ideally the duplicate count threshhold would be configurable; default it
to 4.
