Project 2003 Professional and email collaboration

L

Lynn

Hi,

We were currently using MS Project 2000 with the email notification.
We have recently purchased Project 2003 Professional but not the
server. How can we set up teamstatus, teamassign, and teamupdates with
Project 2003?

I have heard some rumors that it can't accomodate this feature
anymore. Is this true? What's the alternative way of communicating
with your people without purchasing server?

Thanks. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Cheers

Lynn

The e-mail collaboration feature is not available in Microsoft Project
Professional 2003. The software is optimized to use Project Server. Sorry.

Hi Lynn,

Microsoft has made a message handler for Project 2003
which you may download from the following url:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyID=6382C615-1090-452C-8EBA-
4025B8976C18&displaylang=en
[You may have to cut and paste each line into your
browser].
Do read all of the details posted in the download. As
Dale points out, the recommended collaboration method is
Project Server and Web Access.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand why under collaboration menu it gives the option
for email only. And the microsoft site says that it uses it but
everyone else says it doesn't work.

So, is microsoft forcing people to buy server instead of using the
previous option of email?

Is there any other way to collaborate with just Project 2003 without
buying server?

Thanks

Lynn

The email collaboration is being phased out but it is still possible in
2003. MS is strongly encouraging people to go with server because they say
email won't be possible at all in the next release. Search the Microsoft
Knoedge Base on their web site for "workgroup" and there's an article on how
to activate in Project - it requires a registry edit to make the toolbar
visible - and links to download the WGSETUP application necessary to get
Outlook to work with it.

Thanks for suggesting the message handler download for Project 2003. My
only reservation about recommending it to anyone is because it is an
unsupported feature of Project 2003.

Hi Dale,

I agree. I haven't had a chance to test extensively with
Project 2003 and am unsure of its stability.
I hope in telling people to read all of the details about
the download that they will notice that Microsoft clearly
states they do not support the download.
I also want to thank you for your excellent suggestions
and support of this newsgroup. I always find your
answers clear and very helpful.
Thanks,
Julie
