pst files stored on NAS

Fabrizio

I recent have installed a nas server Raidtec on a network.
After installation, i have moved myh outlook pst file on a shared volume on
NAS and i have configured outlook to use his pst file saved on NAS.
Outlook open pst file correctly, i can create and save appointment and
task, but when i try to send message, it remain in outbound folder and
uotlook does't send it. In same manner, if i try to receive email using
pop3, the new email isn't downloaded from mail server.
This happen only if pst file is stored on NAS, if I move pst on a windows
based file server or in local hard disc all work well.
Someone have an idea?
Tanks

One of the reasons storing pst-files on a network share are not recommended
and supported by Microsoft.

Anyway; does it work when you start of with a new pst-file?

Hallo.
There's same problem if users create a new pst file directly on shared
folder.

Alright well then you're out of luck and it truly is unsupported. Why are
you storing pst-files on the network anyway? What makes the diskspace usage
any different from an Exchange database? An Exchange database is a lot more
efficiënt in storing e-mail items as well so you will be using even less
diskspace.

Hi.
The customers do not use exchange server, but only outlook 2000 with an
external mail server from which they download the mail with pop3. The
necessity to save the pst files on the network was dictated from the fact
that they wanted to save with theirs centralized backup software the pst
files. If their file remain saved on the PC, it becomes difficult to save
them with the backup that it comes executed of night. The necessity to save
them on the network simply is given from the requirement to make a backup
copy every night in order not to risk to lose the mail.
I have read some microsoft articles that spoke about this unsupporded
configuration, but i was hopeful that someone had found some workaround for
this.

We do this, as well, despite it being unsupported, but make sure you have
everybody exist Outlook before they go home or your backup software will not
be able to properly back up the PSTs, since Outlook keeps them locked while
it's open. The only other option is to keep the PSTs local and schedule an
event on everyone's PC that will copy the PST to a network drive each night
where the centralized backup will find it.

You can either use the Outlook Add-in: Personal Folders Backup

set it to back up to a network location

or create a scheduled task and use the following script;

I feared that there notsolutions, but hoped that someone was successful to
go around the problem. Many thanks for help
