Publisher two-page view

I'm trying to figure out how to make the first page of a publisher file be a
left page in a two-page spread, rather than a right-page without having to
add a separate page.
The newsletter I'm working on has 8 pages, but due to the graphics involved,
it is nearly 60MB and I'm having trouble saving it to my server without
errors. So, I want to break it apart into printer-ready sections (back cover
the first, left-sided page in a two-page spread with the front cover being
the second, right-sided page in a two-page spread).

I've searched the help files & the discussions but don't see this addressed
anywhere.

Yes I have. I work on the file on my hard drive and save to the server at the
end of the day. The file is somehow corrupted but still allows me to work in
it. Due to the importance of the project, I'm recreating the masters in new
documents and copying & pasting the individual page contents to a new file.
This will help with the saving to the server problem, but I still would like
to know how to start a document with a left-sided page.

I'm sure the saving lag is what caused the corruption. I'm working
exclusively on the hard drive now & using the server as a back up.

Okay - that it isn't possible is NOT the answer I wanted!!!! :-( (can I
pout for a little while?)

Thanks for the feedback - have a great day!

Look at the page sorter tabs at the bottom of your screen, right-click, click
move page. There will be options.

He wants page one on the left and he doesn't want to add a page... With all
those caveats that is the only solution I can come up with. Otherwise it is
copy/paste.

I'd also like to know if there's an option I'm missing.

When I choose move page, it only asks me before or after which page... if I
have only two pages in a document, and I want to view it in a two-page
spread, it gives me a right side page alone, and then a left side page alone.

The only way I've found to display it appropriately is to add a 3rd page &
leave it blank. That will present problems when creating the pdf to send to
the printer.

I appreciate your help!

What size booklet are you setting up? If you are using tabloid stock, create a
new publication, 11 x 17, copy page one, paste on the left side of the new
publication. If your personal printer cannot print tabloid, select the PDF
converter as your printer for this publication.

Thanks for the suggestion. I take it you agree that there is no way to make
publisher apply left-side attributes to the first page of a document. I'll
have to suggest that to Microsoft as a change.

Thanks again.

Logic says if you are creating a booklet, the cover is on the right. I always
setup my greeting cards on a landscape page without using the booklet feature.
The front is always on the right so when it is folded it is correct. Page two
the greeting is always on the right as well so when the page is turned over it
prints correctly.

I cannot see the reason for the cover to be on the left, but the workaround I
suggested does work.

Yes, if you are creating a booklet, of course the cover would be on the
right. However, I'd like to view the whole thing, the way it will be printed
- similar to the way you do your layouts on larger "paper".
And due to the large file size of the document (the cover alone is 18 MB) I
am breaking the booklet into smaller documents; Front & back cover, pg 2 & pg
7, etc... just like they will need to be for professional printing.
However; the page layouts are very different and distinct for each page.
Therefore, the guidelines need to be specifically set up for each page and
each master page. For this reason, using a larger size and setting up two
pages on it (your suggestion, which I have used in the past for other
projects of lesser complexity) won't work because the horizontal guidelines
and different master page layouts I have cannot be set up to apply to
different sections of the same page.
When you're dealing with 1/32 of an inch increments and lines, the guides
get to the point where they become confusing rather than helpful in this
situation.

Bottom line, I surmise, is that there are work-arounds, but that what I need
to do is not possible, if I want to maintain control of my document's layout.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
