Question on Certificates

I noticed when looking at Internet Options-Certificates that some of the
certificates are expired? There are a couple from vertisign that expired in
January 2004 that say "fraudulent " in friendly name?? Also the Hardware
compatibility certificate expired in Dec 2002. Why were these not updated?
Is it because I haven't accessed the sites yet because I just reinstalled XP
Professional or is it because I could have a virus? I scanned with virus
software and it says that there are no viruses.
