Re installing and Upgrading

Any geeks out there? This one is for you!

My original installation of Project is version 4.0 on 6
diskettes. I have purchased every upgrade on cd up to
MSP2002. Everytime I re-install I start the awkard process
of loading from diskettes and upgrading each subsequent
release (my newest computer didn't even come with a floppy
drive!)
Is there any way around this? Can I burn a cd? Which
little tricky files would I need to capture on the cd?

I am not trying to pirate or violate licenses, I just buy
a new computer every year.

Thanks.

Hi,

Option 1) You could first try burning the floppies onto a
CD, making one subfolder for each floppy and try to
install. When it asks for a disk, it may allow you to
locate it (similar to when Windows updates a driver and
sometimes asks you to locate' a file). Just try and see
if it works. You could also try burning everything onto
the CD's root location (not in sub-folders). I haven't
had any personal experiences with MS Project 4.0, but I
have done the same basic thing with other old floppy-based
programs without any trouble.

Option 2) Buy an External USB floppy drive. You can get
an external Samsung drive at Newegg.com for only $32 (US)
& shipping is free. For most people, a small $32 purchase
is no big deal. Heck, since it's external you could use
it for the computer you buy next year... and the year
after that... and the year after that....

Thanks for the tip. I will try option 1. I thought there
might be a hidden file or key or something that wouldn't
make it to the cd. But I will give it a shot.
