Recipients of my email attachments cannot open sent files.....

I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and Windows Office 2007 in November. Part of my
work entails sending and receiving payroll deduction spreadsheets in Excel.
For about the third time in a week, one of my customer called wondering why
they could open my Excel attachments. What is my solution or alternatives?

Hard to say. What email client are they using? What happens when they try to
open a spreadsheet? Does the sent email with the attachment appear in your
Sent Items folder and look okay?

Are you sending to non-Outlook email clients and using Rich Text format? If
so, try using plain text or HTML. Only Outlook can successfully read Rich
Text since it's specific to Microsoft Outlook.

Could be the recipient can't view 2007 files in their previous version of
office if the OP didn't save in a format other than 2007, or the recipient
doesn't have the converter installed.

You're using Office 2007 and they're using an earlier version. Office
2007's default file types cannot be read by earlier versions of Office. One
way to address this is to configure your Office 2007 products to output
their files in Office 2003 format. This is an option in Excel and Word, for
example.
