Remove names in "To" field in received mail

Most of the mail I receive at work has a large distribution list that
includes the details for all addressees. This will greatly increase the size
of the message. I forwarded one of these messages to myself and the original
message (which was 286KB) was reduced to 7KB. I'm able to remove
attachments; I can edit the body of a message, but I haven't been able to
remove the names in the "To" field. Is there any way to delete all these
names? Thanks.

You answered the question yourself, although it is a workaround. When you receive these kinds of emails, forward it to yourself and delete the original.

Agreed, but as you said, it's a workaround, not a solution. And if I were to
do that, I would lose the capability to group/sort on the from field.
