Resource Allocation at a TaskGroup level

I am using a copy of an existing mpp, which has a 1000 tasks, and for high
level planning would like to look at only 10 tasks and concentrate on work at
that level, and start assigning resource at generic level like BA,SA,Dev and
QA to fine tune start and end dates of the project. Does Ms Project allows to
enter resources at group level or I need to create another MPP with these
tasks and play around with it? Any suggestions welcome. Regards, Jay

Hi,

If by "group" you mean summary task (grouping is a different thing for
Project) the answer is you can.
But what is advised against is to use the same resource on both summary and
detail task level.

Jan,

Thx, you are correct, I am using summary task.
But, at a summary level, the task does not take the properites of lowere
level tasks(fixed work), and does not change st/end dates when I allocate
more resource units. Can you tell me what is wrong in my approach?

Hi,

Summary tasks are fixed duration by nature, since their duration is
calculated from the subtasks and not from any resources.
If you need that kind of simulation you can indeed better make a file with
only the phases.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
