Resource names-summary task not populating

When I filter the gantt chart view by summary tasks, the resource names do
not appear in the resource names column. The resource names column is there,
but empty for all of the summary tasks except for one or two. The names
appear for lower-level tasks, just not the summary tasks.

How do I get the names of all the resources assigned to tasks under a
summary task to automatically populate? I know it can be done ... I've done
it in the past, but have no idea why the column is empty now.

Mahameru,
Trevor is exactly right about assigning resources to a summary line. You
might want to read FAQ 49 - Summary Task Resources on our MVP website
at, http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm.

You can get a spare text field at summary line level to display all
resource assigned to performance tasks below the summary but it will
require a VBA macro - it's a fairly simple macro to create.

Hope this helps.

I too need resources to roll-up to the summary level for reporting purposes
and to keep a PMO master plan updated. Easier than looking at things at the
individual task level. So the best practice outlined by the two respondents
doesn't always apply. I'm hoping someone will respond that can provide the
answer you're seeking, as I also need that answer!

Thanks.

Dee,
Can you explain why you think my suggestion of using a spare text field
populated by a VBA macro doesn't apply? It's the only way to "roll up"
resource names to the summary line.
