Resource Over Allocation

Bo

I'm using Project 2000. I am needing to identify by resource group any overallocations. Based on the nature of the projects it appears the easiest way to do this is to assign by groups not individuals. My thought process is to make resources such as Engineering, Testing, QC, etc. I have a couple of questions regarding this approach:

1. Would I change the max unit % in the Resource Sheet to correspond with the number of individuals in the Group. Such as if there are 10 Engineers the max unit % would be 1,000?

2. Is there a way then to show the amount of hours not tasked for the day/week?

I hope this makes sense. Thanking everyone in advance.

Hi,

1. Yes
2. Both Resource Graph and Resource Usage views have the option to show
Remaining Availability.

Hi Bo,

You are correct in question 1. If you had 10 engineers
the max unit would be 1000%.
Question2:
In the resource usage view, click your secondary mouse
button over the timescaled portion of the view (yellow
shaded by default) to show the shortcut menu. Choose
Detail Styles... from the shortcut menu.
From the Usage details list on the left, choose Remaining
Availability. Click the Show button, click OK.
You will now see the number of remaining available hours
in the timescaled portion of the view. The timescale may
be zoomed to show you daily or weekly information.
Hope this helps.

Nope, sorry. Project is essentially a database about 3 distinct entities -
tasks, resources, and assignments. "Remaining Availability" is a field in
the assignment tables and it's the usage views that show data about that
entity. The Gantt chart shows fields associated with the tasks entity and
they don't have access to the assignment information. Note that the three
sets of tables might have fields with the same name but the actual fields
are different. For example, the tasks tables and the resource tables each
have a field named "remaining work" but in the Gantt chart it refers to the
work remaining on that one task while in the resource sheet it refers to the
portion remaining of the resource's total work for all the tasks he's on.

Julie,

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I wanted it to do. One more
question. Can the Remaining Availability then be shown on the gantt chart?
