Restore Personal folders on "upgraded" computer?

E

Ed

My IT dept. upgraded my computer. They took all the files from my UserName
folder and backed them up, and copied them onto the re-imaged hard drive.
I'm moving from Windows and Office 2000 to Windows and Office XP. How do I
get my new Outlook to recognize my previous Personal folders? I found the
previous Personal.pst and copied it into my UserName/Local
Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook folder, but the personal folders
aren't showing.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Ed,
You need to add the personal folders to your profile. If your Outlook icon
on your desktop is not a shortcut, right click on it, scroll to properties,
highlight your Exchange server and check the properties, and add the PST
there (it will ask you to go through all the steps to point to the file).
Your IT team should have done this for you, likely they forgot in the rush of
the job. Otherwise, check the steps listed here:

If you do run into problems, call your IT people back and ask them to set it
up for you.

Thanks for the info, Kathleen. I tried the import, but as it turns out, the
"Old Files Backup" folder is below my UserName, and I don't have sufficient
privileges to import it. I can get IT to make it right - just gotta wait
for a while . . .

Cheers!

One thing you don't want to do is import, use File / Open instead. Or just
add the PST to your profile and you would see it under your regular system
folders in Outlook, listed under Personal Folders. Not a bad idea if you have
a mailbox cap, but a file you would want to back up so you don't lose it.
