Retrieve Email Fails (sbcglobal, other domain)

My new ISP is sbcglobal. I have also my own domain (MyDomain.com) with
email accounts ([email protected]). I am now trying to retrieve emails
from that other domain through Outlook. To do this I setup an account
with the following parameters:

POP3: mail.MyDomain.com
SMTP: mail.MyDomain.com
UserName: (e-mail address removed)
Password: myPassword
My outgoing server requires authentication (checked)
-Use same settings as my incoming mail server
POP3 port is 110, SMTP 25, i.e. I did not change anything.
No SSL.

These are the settings that my hosting company (WebHost4Life) tells me
to use. Now when I test the account I get the following errors:

"Send test email message: The specified server was found, but there was
no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL
information is correct."

"Find outgoing mail server (SMTP): Outlook could not connect to the
outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or
port, or your server may not support SSL."

Any idea what I have to change to get this working.

Thanks

The error you display doesn't seem to have anything to do with receiving
mail. since it's a sending error.

For the outgoing server, try switching to your corresponding SBC Yahoo SMTP
server and specifying your SBC Yahoo username/password on the outgoing
server tab. Use the "Log on using" radio button.

Rob,

I have the same issue with Outlook and SBCGlobal/Yahoo. No changes to the
settings have any effect on the ability to connect to the POP3 server. I was
able to use a different workstation and attach using Outlook 2003 just to
verify that all settings and the ISP mail servers work as advertised. I
suspect the issue has to do with the Microsoft updates that were released on
Thursday.
If I find the answer I will post it here unless someone beats me to it.

Brian,

I did some more research and the result of that is exactly what you
suggested. Supposedly, SBC Yahoo does only allow outbound emails
through their smtp. Therefore, the smtp has to be set to
smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com. Since the smtp needs authentication I need to
check "Log on using: (e-mail address removed)". The incoming server
goes through the actual account, though. So POP3 is set to
mail.MyDomain.com. This account also needs authentication. So in Logon
Information I set User Name to (e-mail address removed). Everything
works fine now.

Mike,

You might want to check out my response to Brian. Maybe it will work
for you, too. You said you tried the same settings on a different
machine and it worked. Was that machine at the same location? If not
then maybe that explains why it works. Some ISPs require that the
outgoing traffic goes through their smtp. sbc yahoo is one of them. If
the other computer uses a different ISP then that might be the reason
why it works on this computer.

That's good news.
