Schedule Variance - getting a wierd value

Every once in while I get a wierd values returned in the schedule variance
(SV) field. Meaning it does not relate the to actual work performed. For
example a resource scheduled for 1 hour of work at $100/hr retruns a SV of
($9.29), when I entered 1 hour of acutal work. I am leaning toward the
Project Status and Current Date fields. How do these fields affect the SV
calculation? Is there something else I can look at that will tell me exactly
the data being used to calculate the SV?

This is me again. After reading a the BCWP post, I have come to new
conculsion. The one entry I was refering to was a task the was baselined
after the project was baselined. Meaning, it was new task and I baseline
only the new task after the project was baselined. When I rebaselined the
project (just for testing purposes), it calculated just right. So it appears
to do something with the extra baseline for that task. Thoughts?

Hi,

I suggest you read help on each variable. It explains the calculations. Any
changes to baseline has an effect.

Select View, Table:, Earned Value
Hover your mouse over each column title and click the hyperlink for help.

Rod, it made sense. I went back and did some testing and determined it was
my lack of understanding of the BWCP calculation -- menaing the % of
completed work. Also, when added addtional work, the % work completed was
less, thus the wierd entry made sense.

Hi Dick
To get results in EV fields the schedule should be:
- resourced,
- costed (hourly or daily rate agaist resources in Resource Sheet view)
- baselined
Then insert eg. columns for SPI and CPI, and progress the schedule.
