Search will not work in Contacts - Outlook 2007

I have a new computer with Vista and Outlook 2007. I cannot get the search
function to work in Contacts, and this is a function I need to use all day
long, daily. I have invested days in trying to fix this--reading, trying to
follow unclear Microsoft tech email instructions from someone who has
difficulty with English, etc., without success. I have rebuilt the index,
which took hours. I need to be able to search by any word(s) or keyword(s) in
all fields, such as a search by "physician" or "electrical repairs"--or last
name, first name or town. Is there a Microsoft patch that will fix this?
There should be. This is a major flaw in Outlook 2007. I will be grateful for
any help.
